KPBS-FM is a U.S. non-commercial public radio station. It serves San Diego, California and positions itself as the premier source for local news and events for this region. This radio station is owned by San Diego State University and is affiliated with NPR, American Public Media and PRI.
KPBS was established in 1960 by San Diego State College and was initially known as KBES. In 1970 they changed the callsign to KPBS-FM. They broadcast mostly news and talk on FM frequencies. In HD format this radio has 3 channels with different types of content. HD1 channel mostly broadcasts news and talk. HD2 channel is focused on classical music and HD3 channel offers so called Groove Salad (downtempo and chillout electronic music).
One of the features of KPBS radio station is that they regularly offer tours to explore their facilities – studios, newsrooms etc. The tours are done by volunteers and anyone can join them.
